Percentage points (pp) represent the direct arithmetic difference between two percentage values (e.g., an increase from 5% to 8% is 3 percentage points). Percentage change measures the proportional relative change against the original base: ((8 - 5) / 5) × 100 = 60% relative increase. Central banks and financial institutions use percentage points to prevent ambiguity.
